Google Business Profile Optimization
Turn a half-empty GBP into your best salesperson — full optimization, photos, posts, categories and review setup.
Your Google Business Profile is probably the first thing a local customer sees about you — before your website, before your reviews page, before anything you paid a designer for. And most profiles we open are running at maybe 40% of what Google allows.
The full optimization
- Category strategy — your primary category is the strongest single ranking signal in the Map Pack. We test it against what’s actually winning in your market, then fill every relevant secondary category.
- Services and products — each service listed with descriptions, so you can rank for services your competitors never listed.
- Photos that convert — profiles with real, regularly added photos get measurably more calls. We set the schedule and the shot list.
- Posts and Q&A — the sections everyone ignores. Pre-seeded questions and a posting rhythm that signals an active business.
- Review responses — templates in your voice for the good ones and a calm, professional playbook for the bad ones.
Why profiles underperform
Because “verified” feels like “done.” Verification is step one of thirty. The gap between a verified profile and an optimized one is usually the gap between page-two invisibility and the three-pack.
What we need from you
Manager access to the profile and 20 minutes of questions about your services. That’s it — the rest is on us, delivered in about a week with a before/after report.
Fits with
GBP work multiplies when the rest of local SEO backs it up — citations that match your profile exactly, and a site that supports it. It’s included in every local SEO campaign, or order it standalone.
Profile suspended instead of underperforming? Different problem, different service: suspension recovery.
Category strategy, explained properly
Your primary category is arguably the single strongest signal in Google’s local ranking algorithm, more influential per change than almost anything else you can adjust on the profile. Most businesses pick the most obvious-sounding category and never revisit it, even when a more specific or better-performing category exists. We check what category the businesses actually ranking in your Map Pack use, test alternatives where it makes sense, and fill every genuinely relevant secondary category available, since secondary categories expand which searches you’re eligible to appear for without diluting your primary signal.
Photos: why the schedule matters as much as the quality
A profile with twenty photos uploaded once, two years ago, sends a different signal than one with the same twenty photos added gradually with new ones appearing regularly. Google’s systems and actual customers both read consistent, recent photo activity as a sign of an active, trustworthy business. We build a realistic upload schedule and a specific shot list (work in progress, completed jobs, team, storefront, before-and-afters where relevant) rather than a one-time photo dump that goes stale within months.
Posts and Q&A: the sections almost nobody uses correctly
Google Posts let you publish updates, offers, and announcements directly on your profile, and the Q&A section lets anyone ask (and anyone answer) questions about your business. Most profiles either ignore both entirely or use Posts sporadically with no real strategy. We seed relevant questions in the Q&A section proactively (the questions real customers actually ask) with accurate answers already in place, rather than leaving that space empty for a stranger to fill with inaccurate information, and set up a consistent posting rhythm that signals ongoing activity to both Google and browsing customers.
What “20 minutes of questions” actually covers
We ask about your exact services (including ones you might not think to mention but that customers search for), your typical customer’s questions and concerns, what makes you different from nearby competitors, and any seasonal or promotional patterns worth reflecting in your posting schedule. This intake conversation is what lets us write services, descriptions, and posts that sound like your actual business, not generic industry boilerplate that could apply to any company in your category.
Common questions
My profile is already verified, isn’t that enough?
Verification confirms Google trusts you’re a real, legitimate business at that location, it’s the starting line, not the finish line. An unoptimized but verified profile is still missing most of the signals that actually drive Map Pack visibility.
How long until I see more calls or clicks?
Most clients see measurable engagement changes (calls, direction requests, website clicks from the profile) within 2-4 weeks of full optimization, though actual Map Pack ranking movement depends on your competition and market, which we’ll assess honestly during the initial review.
Do you handle multiple locations?
Yes, for businesses with more than one location, see our dedicated multi-location SEO service, which handles the added complexity of per-location optimization at scale.
What if my profile has a suspension or verification issue instead?
That’s a different problem requiring a different fix, see our GBP suspension recovery service instead.

Review responses: templates that still sound like you
Generic, copy-pasted responses to reviews (“Thank you for your feedback!”) signal an inattentive business almost as clearly as no response at all. We build response templates specific to your voice and common scenarios, genuine appreciation for positive reviews that mentions something specific about the customer’s actual experience where possible, and a calm, professional playbook for negative reviews that acknowledges the concern without being defensive. Other potential customers read how you handle criticism as closely as they read the reviews themselves.
Timeline and delivery
A full optimization pass, category review, services and descriptions, photo strategy, Q&A seeding, and posting setup, typically completes within about a week from when we get manager access and complete the intake questions. You’ll get a before-and-after report showing exactly what changed, so the improvement is visible, not just something we tell you happened.
Common mistakes we find on unoptimized profiles
Leaving the primary category at whatever was auto-suggested during initial signup, without checking what actually performs best in the local market, is one of the most frequent and highest-impact mistakes we correct. A close second is uploading a handful of photos once at setup and never adding more, profiles that go quiet on updates read as less active to both Google’s systems and to a customer scrolling past dozens of competing listings. Ignoring the Q&A section entirely is a third common gap, leaving it open for anyone, including competitors, to post inaccurate answers that sit unaddressed for months.
