SEO Consulting
One-off expert eyes on your SEO — strategy, second opinions, and answers without a retainer.
Sometimes you don’t need an agency. You need an hour with someone who’s ranked a few hundred sites and can tell you what actually matters for yours.
What consulting looks like here
You bring the questions, we bring straight answers. Common sessions:
- Strategy review — you’re doing SEO in-house and want a second opinion on the plan before spending six more months on it.
- Agency audit — you’re paying someone else and want to know if the invoices match the work. (We’ll be honest, even when the answer is “your agency is doing fine.”)
- Traffic-drop diagnosis — rankings fell and you want to know why before you panic-buy services. Often pairs with a technical review.
- Pre-launch check — you’re rebuilding or migrating a site and want to avoid the mistakes that kill rankings. See also SEO migration.
How it works
Book a session, send your site and questions in advance, and we come prepared — not discovering your site live on the call while the clock runs. You get the call plus a written summary of recommendations you can act on with or without us.
What it costs
Single sessions are fixed-price — listed before you book, like everything here. If the session turns into a bigger project, the consulting fee comes off the project price.
Not sure whether you need consulting or a full campaign? The free audit usually answers that question for free.
Who actually books a consulting session
Businesses with an in-house marketing person handling SEO alongside other responsibilities often want an outside second opinion before committing months of effort to a plan they’ve built themselves, catching a wrong assumption early is far cheaper than discovering it after six months of misdirected work. Businesses already paying an agency sometimes want an honest, independent read on whether the invoices match real, meaningful work, we’ll tell you plainly if your current agency is actually doing a good job, since our goal is an honest answer, not manufacturing a reason for you to switch providers. And founders planning a site rebuild or migration frequently want a pre-launch review specifically to avoid the SEO mistakes that quietly cost months of rankings when a redesign goes live without proper planning.
How we prepare before the call
We ask for your site URL, Search Console access if available, and your specific questions in advance, then review your actual data before the session starts. This means the hour you’re paying for goes toward analysis and answers, not spent watching us discover your site’s basic structure live on the call while your clock runs. For traffic-drop diagnosis sessions specifically, we’ll have already checked Search Console for manual actions and cross-referenced your drop date against known algorithm update timelines before we even get on the call.
What you actually walk away with
Beyond the conversation itself, you get a written summary of findings and recommendations after the session, something concrete you can act on yourself, hand to your in-house team, or use to evaluate whether your current agency’s approach makes sense. This isn’t a sales pitch document, it’s the same honest assessment discussed on the call, written down so you don’t have to rely on memory afterward.
Common questions
Will you try to upsell me into a bigger project during the call?
No, the point of consulting is honest, independent advice. If your situation genuinely calls for ongoing work, we’ll say so, but plenty of sessions end with “here’s exactly what to do, you don’t need us for this part,” and that’s a completely fine outcome.
What if my questions need more than one session to fully answer?
We’ll tell you honestly if a single session isn’t enough scope for what you’re asking, rather than rushing through a surface-level answer to stay within the hour. Follow-up sessions or a scoped project can be arranged if needed.
Is this useful if I’m not currently doing any SEO at all?
Yes, a strategy session before starting from scratch can save significant wasted effort, especially around technical foundation decisions (platform choice, URL structure) that are much cheaper to get right from day one than to fix later.
How is pricing determined?
Single sessions are fixed-price, listed upfront before you book, the same transparency we apply to every service. If a session reveals you need a larger project, the consulting fee you already paid comes off that project’s price rather than being a separate, wasted cost.
Still deciding whether you need a consulting session or a full campaign? The free SEO audit often answers that question on its own, at no cost.
Pre-launch reviews specifically
A migration or redesign review works best 2-4 weeks before launch, early enough that findings can actually be built into the new site rather than discovered as a costly fix afterward. We check planned URL structure against your current one for redirect mapping needs, review whether content that’s currently ranking well is being preserved or accidentally cut during the redesign, and confirm technical elements like schema and canonical tags are part of the build plan rather than an afterthought. This pairs closely with our dedicated SEO migration service for larger, more involved moves.
What a typical session actually covers, hour by hour
The first portion of most sessions reviews what we found in your data before the call, current rankings, technical issues, competitive position, whatever’s relevant to your specific questions. The middle covers our actual recommendations, explained plainly enough that you could hand them to a developer or in-house team member and have them understood without a follow-up call. The remaining time is yours, questions, pushback, “what if we tried this instead”, the kind of back-and-forth that a written report alone can’t replace.
Common mistakes that make a consulting call less useful
Coming in without any specific questions, just “tell us about our SEO”, tends to produce a broader, less actionable conversation than arriving with 3-4 concrete things you actually want answered. Not sharing Search Console or analytics access ahead of time means more of the call gets spent on discovery rather than answers, since we’re working from what’s publicly visible instead of your actual data. And treating the written summary as optional rather than something to actually act on afterward is the most common reason a genuinely useful session doesn’t translate into real results, the advice only helps if someone follows through on it.
